Please Mind The Gap

The scrapped Gap logo
[image: abcnews.com]                      [image: gap.com]
After trying to reinvent their logo, Gap have scrapped it just one week after unveiling it. This was all down to the many critics tearing the reinvention apart on forums and social networking sites.
Personally I do not see what's wrong with the original logo of 20 years, it is an iconic logo known throughout the world, the failed attempt looked more like a logo for a marketing company rather than an American fashion brand.
Leave it be Gap!

Your Amazing, Just The Way You Are

Bruno Mars song lyrics have the ability to turn my frown upside down, and make me think that I would like to find my very own Bruno Mars, who likes me just the way I am =]
The majority of women, insecure or not, have the fantasy that they will one day find someone who will not care that they have cellulite, a bad complexion or not so pearly whites. So tell me has anyone found them yet, or do they actually exist, as i'm losing faith.

Brand New BHS

As a student, I have found it very hard to find a job whilst at university, in fact for the two years that I have attended Huddersfield University, I have not had a single response from any of the many stores I handed my CV too.  So basically I have been living off my student loan and nothing else, well mummy and daddy too obviously =]
Before university I worked for Wallis, which wasn't a bad job, apart from the extremely rude customers that used to frequent the store.
I am now undertaking a placement year, and am currently working for the PR department of Karen Millen, I have fallen in love with most of their products really. The 5.30 alarm is the downside to this excellent opportunity, but hey ho beggars can't be choosers.
While my placement is on the verge of glamorous, my weekend job, which I now finally have is not so much. It seems Wallis could not live without me, so have taken me back, thank goodness. However we are now situated in BHS along with Dorothy Perkins and Burton.
I know what your thinking, BHS, why on earth are Wallis, Dotty P's and Burton in there? Well as you may or may not know they are all part of Arcadia and so is BHS.
Uxbridge store now launched
[image: bhs.co.uk]

A BHS store in Uxbridge had a huge refit, with a brand new concept, that has made it super modern. And thanks to Phillip Green the BHS store in Basildon, Essex is one of the lucky stores to get the refit.
I must say it's like working in a completely different place, so modern and inviting and it also has a cafe =]
It's not as glamorous as it should be just yet, as the other BHS employees and I are working in a lot of dust, but on the positive side there are some fairly good-looking builders, which is always nice when it's a quite day.
If you live near a newly refurbished BHS I suggest you go in and take a look you will not believe your hopefully dust free (if it's finished) eyes.

Exquisite Erdem

So I'm very behind blogging about the fabulous shows from the recent fashion weeks, however I am starting off with Erdem's spring/summer 2011 collection.
It seriously made me want to cry, I have fallen in love with every piece!

Here are a few of my favourites...

The show began with applique on white chiffon with white lace, this gave the show an air of romance and naivety, however it was not long before a more vibrant colour palette was used.
Beautiful embroidered floral prints, appeared throughout, keeping the feminine feeling to the collection.
Busy printed, tailored trousers and shorts were matched with floral blouses and shirts, and pretty ribbon tie shoes along with a more harsh lace shoe finished off the outfits perfectly.

Burlesque!

So what have Cher, Christina Aguilera and Kristin Bell all have in common? That's right they all star in the 2010 film Burlesque!
Anything including singing, dancing and Cher is a hit with me so I can not wait untill this comes out,17th December, being the UK release date according to IMDb.
Small town girl Ali (Christina Aguilera) heads to Los Angeles and finds herself working as a waitress in a burlesque club, she soon falls in love with the art of burlesque and from the trailer I think we can all gather that the club falls in love with Ali and her voice.
Sequins, glitter, heels and eye candy for both the ladies and men, this film in my opinion is going to be a huge hit and I can not wait to be front row with my popcorn =]

Book Worm Alert!!

Charity shops are turning me into a book worm, they are just so cheap, £3.70 for 5 books!!! You can't even buy 1 book in Waterstones for that price.
Now I just have to find the time in between the gym and sleeping to read them all, thank goodness I have a holiday next week =]
I get a little nervous when buying a book, many things run through my head 'what happens if I don't like it', 'what happens if it's sad, I don't want to cry' and 'is this a series, if so have I got the first book, or am I going to start half way through the story'. I tell you it's a nightmare, this is why a charity shop is a much safer place for me to go, less choice and less pennies leaving my purse.

'The Girl Next Door' by Elizabeth Noble (number 1 bestselling author of Things I Want My Daughter To Know) was my first choice, mainly because i'm a bit addicted to anything to do with the Upper East Side at the moment and it's about a girl from the UK living in on New York's Upper East Side.
So I haven't got further than the first page because there are nearly 4 sides just naming the characters!! Now does this mean i am going to have to keep flicking back and forth just to see who David Schulman (one of the many characters) is.... I really hope not!
When I have finished, hopefully more than just the character descriptions, I shall let you know.

Bon Appetit

Earlier today I honestly thought I had nothing to do, see or read, oh how very wrong I was.
Julie & Julia starring Meryl Streep is one of the most delightful (not a word I get to use very often when describing a film) films I have seen recently. There was a smile across my face for the majority of the movie, due to the brilliant acting and also the wonderful story.
Nora Ephron truly celebrates Julia Childs passion for cooking, her book Mastering The Art Of French Cooking, allowed American suburbia to recreate those mouth watering delights that France had to offer post war. The story of the cookbook writer Julia Childs (Meryl Streep) is inter cut with the day to day life of Julie Powell (Amy Adams), whose life in New York post 9/11 is unfulfilling for the wannabe writer.
Julie sets herself a challenge, allowing a year to cook all 524 recipes of her idol Julia Childs, whilst documenting there success on her blog.
Julie and Julia grew up decades apart and never met, but both had a passion for food, which they then shared with the world through a book and a blog.
This beautifully told story of love of food and of husbands, is now one of my favourite films of all time.
I can imagine the snow falling, whilst I am snuggled on the sofa with a big mug of hot chocolate watching this lovely film =]

My lip gloss is poppin, my lip gloss is cool...

So Topshop have a new make up range, yes you heard right, Topshop make up actually exists. I thought it was all a dream to, I had to double check the newsletter.
They never miss a thing do they, celebrity collaborations, sub brands, lingerie, shoes they have done it, so the new make up collection with everything from foundation to nail polish should come as no surprise.
With lip gloss to complement the many different SS10 ranges such as 'Tropical Girl' and 'Summer Fete' we can all have fashionable faces and bodies.

There is know need to worry if the huge selection of colours are not sold in a store near you either, as again Topshop have thought of everything and created a virtual makeover section on their website to help you choose the right shades for your skin tone. There are also video tutorials to help create the perfect look with your fantabulous make up.

So when will Topshop jump on the fragrance band wagaon?!?!

It's All About The Gossip

It has been far too long since I posted anything on here!  The past few weeks have been wearing me out, the stress of all my university work is getting me down, but I am now home and enjoying the southern landscape =]
Currently I have done zero work, but I have however had a chance to catch up with the new episodes of Gossip Girl, which I am now more obsessed with than ever! I have always been a bigger fan of Chuck than of Nate, however in the last few episodes I am actually in love with Nate, maybe because he has a bigger role at the moment.
I was reading a few Gossip Girl blogs the other day and people were talking about the Little J, Nate and Serena love triangle, which I love, but I am worried that Little J will be hated if she steals Nate. Ever since Nate kissed Jenny in the first series, thinking she was Serena, I have been rooting for them two to get together. So fingers crossed.

As always, Blair has had some classic one liners, the best so far in my opinion being;
'Prostitutes are people too! And they have a lot of disposable income'
She is such a brilliant character, her snobbish ways and sophisticated style are what keep me watching the show.

Leighton Meester, who plays Blair Waldorf is as fabulous on screen as she is off screen, whether it be her musical talents or her style.
Her style as Leighton greatly differs from that of her on screen character Blair, I must say I prefer Blair's style, however the latest outfit she wore to the Date Night premier definately had the wow factor.  She was wearing one of Giambattista Valli’s fringed dresses from the spring 2010 collection and she looked amazing in it.

Gaga in the room, so starstruck cherry cherry cherry cherry, boom boom

Well it turned out to be one of the most amazing nights of my life! Lady Gaga is the best thing to come out of pop for years in my opinion and at the O2 on Friday 26th February, she showed us all what she was capabale of.
From the moment I got to the O2 I noticed that people had added a little bit of Gaga to themselves, some just having a glitter lightning bolt on their face, others going to hole hog and wearing the wig and all. She clearly has some dedicated fans. One fan in particular stood out the most really going all out to create the ultimate Gaga outfit.
The first support act we watched I had never heard of, however thought they were great. Semi Precious Weapons are now up there with my favourite bands. With lyrics such as ' I can't pay my rent but im f*cking gorgeous' the New York glam rock band was not liked by everyone, however I felt lead vocalist Justin Trantor set the whole evening off very well, I especially loved his fishnets, t-shirt and jacket combo. Now I do not know whether it was changing his whole outfit on stage lying on the floor (loved his photo print leggings) or pouring champagne into the mouths of possible 15 year olds that made me like them even more or just their music but they now have a new fan :]

The second support, Danish pop group Alphabeat were also very good, it was good knowing who they were and being able to sing a long. Lead female vocalist Stine Bramsen was amazing live however I was not keen on her outfit. It wasn't that the long sleeved body was horrible, its just the satin look material didn't do Stine any favours, neither did the thick elastic waist belt. Apart from the tiny fashion faux pas Alphabeat were brilliant.

So besides the fact she was about 40 minutes late Lady Gaga was amazing. The opening was pretty cool, with a white curtain around the stage and images of her projected onto it. The singing was obviously amazing, especially when she sang 'Brown Eyes' and 'Speechless' which do happen to be two of my favourites so it made my evening.
Along with the singing the outfits were out of this world!  The changes took a bit of time but when she stepped out in another fantastic creation you did not mind. One of my favourites was a white see through nun type outfit and also another white dress and head dress which moved while she sang, it also had wings that popped up. All I can say is, only Lady Gaga.

I was very suprised on how much she interacted with the audience, but she was very funny and seemed pretty genuine. It is quite hard to take someone seriously when they have a tiny leather bikini on or a leopard print cat suit with a hood and military hat, but thats why i'm glad she did interact as we got to see more than just her wacky clothes.
The whole evening was absolutely amazing and I did not want it to end!
The best show I have ever been to!!!!
Thank you to my best friend for getting me the ticket for xmas =]

Rah Rah ah ah ah

OMG!!! I am off to see Lady Gaga tonight at the O2 eeekkkkk. I am obviously excited about seeing Gaga live, but I can not wait to see what she is going to wear. I find her very inspirational how bizarre some of her outfits are and that she wears them even if the rest of the world doesn't get it.

So Monster Ball pictures coming soon :]

Balmainia

This series of Skins is so dark, tonights especially. It made me shed a little tear when fredster was crying.
I am becoming more aware of how jealous I am of Kaya Scodelario (Effy); being able to pull off such a mismatched edgy wardrobe.
Whilst watching it this evening, I thought how Effy/Kaya would look good in everything featured in Balmain's spring/summer 2010 collection. I really love this collection, it's nice not to see florals for spring! Instead, Christophe Decarnin showed everything from punk to disco cave-girl, with metal-epauletted military tailcoats, tattered t-shirts, stained, and holed jeans, and raggedy suede and leather loincloths. He then topped it off with sequined camouflage dresses.
Now I am a bit of a girly girl, however it's nice to mix and match your look every now and then, which is exactly why I could do with a Balmain military jacket and a gold sequined camouflage dress right now!!
